The following rules are to be read in conjunction with the Eligibility and Allocation Rules for All Open 2LDs

1. To be eligible for a domain name in the id.au 2LD, registrants must be:
a) an Australian citizen; or
b) an Australian resident.

2. Domain names in the id.au 2LD must:
a) exactly match the registrant’s personal name; or
b) be an acronym or abbreviation of the registrant’s personal name; or
c) be otherwise closely and substantially connected to the registrant, because the domain name:
(i) is derived from one or more words of the registrant's personal name; or
(ii) includes one or more words of the registrant's personal name; or
(iii) is a personal name by which the registrant is known.

Finally a domain name for individuals, that is very Australian. The id.au domain space allows you to secure your presence on the web, whilst representing everything that is individual about YOU!

what is Web & Email forwarding?
Email Forwarding: Redirect all id.au webname e-mails to an existing e-mail account.
If you change Internet Service Providers in the future, all you need to do is update the destination e-mail address. Your contacts will only need to know your id.au
webname email address for ever more.
Web Forwarding: Did you know that most ISP accounts come with free webspace? Unfortunately the URL address is often something similar to this:
www.members.yourisp.com.au/~username. With web forwarding you can cloak this URL with your id.au webname.

www.yourname.id.au :redirects to: www.members.yourisp.com.au/~username address.

For instance:
If your name happens to be John Black you may want to register:
black.id.au
But if black.id.au is taken you are then able to register a variation of your name.
For instance:
jblack.id.au or johnblack.id.au
Naturally this will allow you to set up an email address to suit.
